KakaoTalk is not optional in Korea — it IS the communication platform. Your school, co-teachers, and friends will all use it. Download it before arriving. Text slang like ㅋㅋ (laughter) and ㅇㅇ (agreement) will appear in every group chat. "읽씹" (read but not replied) is considered rude!
